Does anyone have an E60 with Active Steering? Do you have Adaptive Drive (Dynamic Drive with Electronic Damper Control - EDC)? Do you mind sharing your likes/dislikes?

Thanks,

grover

Active steering, love it. You might not even notice the difference until you step directly out of a car with and into one without. buddy of mine has a 530i without active steering and when I drive it I feel like I'm steering a cruise ship. in the beginning (maybe first few hours) you'll notice yourself making too much input for low speed steering, but once it is mastered it is one of the best e60 options I've got.

^^^^^^
Same as above re: Active steering.

I DID order it from its description which was a stupid risk but I haven't regretted it once. Phew.

I must admit I haven't tried an e60 without it.

IIRC AS/DD was a standard configuratiojn for US Sports Package e60s till recently so you should get plenty of input from our NA cousins.

Hi

Mine is 530i 2006 with active steering as part of the package. This is one feature I love and is a real plus for the driver. At lower speeds, the steering angle is considerably reduced and with lots of ease u can negotiate turns. At higher speeds the steering is very precise. You know active steering is an invention brought by 5 series team exclusively.
cheers

I love my Active Steering.

I can drive my car with hands on 9 & 3 o'clock positions, and never move them.

A right hand turn at at stop sign is only 90 degrees steering wheel rotation. This is normally 180 degrees rotation for non-AS car.

I had active steering on my 545 and went with standard steering on my 550. I made a mistake. Active steering is phenonemal, and I greatly regret not having it on my 550. Re adaptive drive, I've never seen electronic dampers available on US spec cars? As others have said the US sport pack at one time did comprise both AS and DD, but I've never seen any option here for electronic damper control or "adaptive drive". Anyone else seen anything different?

Just got my 550i with Active Steering last Friday. After 3 days of driving with it, I think the Active Steering is great. I really felt the difference when driving my friend's MB E500 on Sunday. Easy to get used to and it makes it very easy to maneuver the car in tight quarters. Very stable at highway speeds. Haven't seen a negative yet.

Thanks for all of your replies. I have to admit that I am doing research for a new 2007 X5 purchase (I'd like an E60, but I need the utility of a SAV for pulling a medium size utility trailer, Sea Doo trailer, snowmobile trailer). In Canada, if you order adaptive drive it includes Adaptive Steering - which many auto magazines have been dumping on. My dealer tells me it is a great feature. You all seem to agree.

Thanks,

grover
