My Ride: 2004 545i Sport: Titanium Gray on Gray Dakota with Black Poplar Trim, SMG Transmission, Active Steering, Logic 7, Navigation

I know there are some folks who dislike the active steering, but I think it's great. Driving a car without it is a chore.

Anyway, there are those who say that it's improved now over the early version cars (mine is a 2004 545i). My question is: has it changed mechanically, or have the changes been to the software? If it's in the software, have I benefited from those changes thru the various Progman updates?

Regards to all.

my '08 is more precise and refined than '05 545i, which by itself is very nice. the 550i active steering modulates based on the sport / sport manual / auto / selection. you CAN feel it.

This is my 2nd E60, and loved active steering in both., parking lots especially.

Great BMW idea application

had active steering in cayenne s but really couldn't tell that much cuz i haven't driven one without it to compare.
for what it was worth,

hey man, as for your 545. i wanted it but doesn't look like it's gonna happen. my brother-in-law wants a 525i instead for gas mileage etc. but damn that is a smacking deal.

I am also feeling a strong difference from my previos active steer E60's to my new '08 550i. much tighter, more natural, like it's not there. I'm still learning the new tranny, and the different things each mode does to the rest of the car, but there is a difference on each one. If you are wondering, in a nutshell, whether this is an improvement answer is definitely YES!

how you can really tell is when you take in your car for service and drive a loaner for a whole day!! when you turn the wheel its so much ruffer! i love my active steering!!!! it makes turning so much smoother, the best part is when you are going fast while switching lanes.

Mine is 530i with active steering and I like it- all except for the vibrating in the steering wheel while at a standstill.
Anybody else experiencing this?

I had active steering on my 04 545i, first car it was offered on; the car ate tires and was just to sensitive, so when I decided to get a 550, I didn't want active steering. I love this car, it has sports package abd drive like a sports car, matbe active steering has improved, but I don't miss it.

most dealers will say any wrong thing is normal like that they wont have to pay up if you are under warranty. Try calling BMW NORTH AMERICA see what they say, they might help.
