Nobody mentioned what I think was its primary purpose. When you are drivings quickley through S turns or a road course, you do not have to take your hands off of the steering wheel to negotiate turns. This gives you better control and feedback. Without AS you are doing the hand-over-hand to make some of the turns.
Totally agree + ease of parking ............going back to a non AS car would be ................going back !

I love AS...didn't have it on my 530, but got it with the 550, and I wouldn't be without it!! It's interesting to me that maybe 3 or so years ago, you wouldn't have seen so much positive feedback on AS...most, if not all of the responses here have been positive!!

Biggest mistake I ever made was not getting AS on my 550. Had it on my 545, and thought it was excellent. Thought I would be OK without it on the 550 and quickly found I really missed it. As I've said before, AS truly makes a 4000lb sedan feel like a go-kart. It's awesome.

I don't need it. Just another thing to break and I doubt I require it in 99% of my driving. The fact that they nixed it from the Sport Packet is a good reason to just say no.

Glad I could start such an enthusiastic thread! I think its makes us lazy-er. I like a tight steering wheel.
