I was looking at BMW's web site yesterday on the options lists for the E60 and it said that active steering is only available with sports suspension or sports suspension/active drive.Could this be right ?

Aaron 06-15-2004 09:58 AM

In the US, yes this is right.

This is my second E60 the first did not have active steering and the ride was so much different to this one,it was much softer.

Also i do not have any way of adjusting the headlight height, whereas on the other car i could adjust them.

Active steering is the way to go. If you can get it you need too.
Only had it for 2 days and can see a difference.

As you can see from this from BMW's web site.

530dse - Adjusting the headlights' height is only possible with non-xenon lights, so that's the reason why the switch is missing.

About active steering, this is the best option ever. period!

I just got my car back after driving a loaner which was a 320d and I must say that at first it felt like the servo (electric steering) of the loaner wasn't working at all!!! I really had to put a lot of force on the steering wheel before it wanted to turn and man it felt like I was turning the wheel forever to get out of the parking lot. Just a couple of days before I brought my car to the dealer I was thinking that active steering had begun to malfunction since I didn't felt it anymore, man was I wrong!!! As I said before active steering is the only way to go! A must have! B)

530dse,

I have Sports Suspension with Active Steering on a November 2003 build. However when I was planning to order a new E60 in March 2004 it was possible to have Active Steering without Sports Suspension or Dynamic Drive according to the price list at the time. This may have changed again since then.

As JohanDC mentioned, you only get headlight adjustment switch with non-xenon lights. The xenon lights have automatic height level adjustment.
