I had a test drive in a 545 with it fitted in the uk and thought it was nice.

Doing 80 coming up on a car doing 50 in the slow lane i didn't have to touch a pedal as the car slowed up in behind.

I did notice that it would pick up vehicles in other lanes as you went round sweeping bends, it would kind if judder a bit the go clear and back up to speed again.

Do you know what really bothers me about the active cruise control (other than the fact that I don't have it) ??

It's very existence and availability on a car that I own... if such a slick product were unknown to me I would not miss it in the least but as i find myself cruising down the motorway, doing that manual driving thing (albeit with cruise and a not-too-bad 6spd steptronic auto) and have to brake in just those situations that ACC is designed to manage, and dam*it THEN I wish I had it

i was blissfully ignorant of such an option prior to shopping for and buying my 5series - and it was a mistake to have not installed it (mistake #2 was not going for the parking distance control, esp. here in the UK)

on the other hand, i do worry about 5ers cruising the motorway with fat businessmen asleep at the ACC-controlled (not quite) wheel!

$2000 US for a cruise control? I can tap the brake now and then.

I have ACC and thats one of my favourite extras.
If a car cuts in front of you your car wont slow down if the speed of that car is grater than yours.
The guys at BMW were aware of all kinds of situations about ACC. It's an almost perfect system.
