My car recently developed a problem that my iDrive wants to announce to me each time I start the car. I've tried going into the CC messages in the iDrive to acknowledge that I know about it and that it doesn't need to keep telling me, but I can't find a way of doing that. When I go to the message and click down on the iDrive controller (or hold it down for 10 seconds) nothing happens. I'm looking for it to let me acknowledge I know about it and it can STFU about it. I really ain't going to the stealership for such a trivial message as this one.

Not sure if it will work for a long period of time but are you aware of the little button on the turn signal that might make it go away?

Getting it to go away isn't really a problem, so I guess I did find the button. It's stopping it coming back the next time I start the car I want to avoid. I want it to move into some kind of state where it knows it doesn't have to nag me about it until my next service.

I don't think you can make it go away between starts. I was thinking more about some of the nagging messages (like when you're low on fuel) that come back minutes after you clear them...

Oh. I haven't had any of them yet. Only had this car about a month

Do a search on 'anti-trap reset'. There are different instructions for the front and rear, but this should work for you. Good luck!

Wow. I never thought for a second about actually searching here on my actual problem. I just figured I had a real hardware problem and it would have to be dealt with by the dealer. The idea of having a reset procedure never entered my head. Gonna try it in the morning :-)

The thread still has value though. We should be able to cancel CC messages from repeat offending every single time we start the car. There's only a certain number of times we need telling

How crazy is that message btw. It's telling me one of the "SIDE" power windows has the anti-trap problem. Aren't ALL of the power windows in an e60 at the side? I haven't noticed the front or rear windshield being electrically adjustable up or down.

Well +1 for the anti-trap reset working for me. That 17 second trick rocks. Still, it's only something I had to do because the iDrive won't let me acknowledge semi-permanently that I've been told about a particular problem. In this case it was something I didn't care about, but had to go to the trouble of fixing it. Luckily it was a trivial DIY fix. What if it was something not so DIY like the cruise control doesn't work or a parking sensor is broken. These are things I'd like to live with until my next service but I'm sure I'd be nagged the hell out of. Oh well, we always have to live with something annoying (mine's out shopping at the moment).
