Gave it one more try just now. Managed to unlock the menu.

The pass code is the sum of the last **5** digits of your VIN which is shown in menu 1.0. Mine is B3XYZAB. I just added up XYZAB, and keyed in this sum in menu 19.

A few of the submenus are quite clear what they are but couldn't understand majority.

Mine is a Right-Hand-Drive 7/2004 E60.
Can you get the codes for the iDrive? I might know some people that can program Windows CE auto. Maybe add some neat screen saver or create different GUI for the menus.

Can you explain how did you calculate the pass code (more detailed please)

You need to get your VIN number. I remember menu 1 once you get into this secret menu will show the last 7 digits of your VIN. Assuming it is B3XYZAB, I simply do X+Y+Z+A+B. Then whatever this sum turns out to be I just go to menu 19, and enter it there. As you can see, the max of X+Y+Z+A+B is 45 (all 9's). You can also try circulating through each of these numbers in menu 19. There are only 45 of them.

ok how do i keep data from disappearing when i start the car?? I had a friend with a 325ci E46 and he could make the numbers stay on the screen as he drove....i remembered he had the rev counter displayed (function 7.2). How would I make them not disappear?

Nothing special to have that. I normally get into the secret menu by not starting the engine (I think to key position 2). Once I have the display, I just start the engine from that key position (i.e. don't turn the key to position 0 again). The display will just stay there.

I saw test 7 was for coolant temp. Does this mean you can have a temp display on the idrive screen?

I guess we are all waiting for someone to hack the OS; then we can all custom the idrive look.
