I recently saw an episode of the Gadget Show which showed the Roadcam Roadscan product. It seemed like a really good idea and basically records continuously to provide video footage in case of an accident. Thinking of getting one of these for my 525d as there have been some near misses in the past few years and had there been an accident, then this device would have been really useful.

The device featured on Gadget Show has been extremely difficult to find where it is being sold but here is the website link:
http://www.roadscan.co.uk/index.php

I found a similar device which seems better here:
http://www.truscene.com/ though there is not info on their website. A review of it can be found here:
http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/28/truscen...r-your-vehicle/

Question is, has anyone got or experienced these devices before? Would the video footage be accepted in court as evidence? Sounds all great in theory and certainly worth the few hundred quid if it saves so at least that in the event of an accident (or even a bit of piece of mind knowing that if an accident did happen that wasn't my fault then I would have something to back it up).

Thoughts/suggestions?

Hmmm...no response. Anyone got any opinions on this even though they may not own one?

I remember seeing that and thinking that in 10 years or so it'll be a common feature, especially amongst company cars and lease cars, and even moreso on hire cars. Maybe it'll filter into private car ownership too. The big problem though is that there needs to be some landmark precedent court cases where it's accepted as evidence. That example they listed on their website was one where when presented with the evidence, some insurance company (or person) decided to give up and accept it was their fault. They could just as easily said that's not admissable and stuck with going for it on a knock-for-knock basis.

Personally I wouldn't want to be a trailblazer and install one, but I won't mind if one day they're standard.
