Acceleration Hiccups/6-speed/09 535xi
Hey guys,
Its been a while since I last posted but, i've recently started to have some trouble with my 2009 535xi. For the past two months or so, my car has been on and off complaining about oil being at a minimum. I haven't driven the car too much and it has sat for about a month and a half without even being started. (I took the opportunity to drive my 3 & 6 more)
I did some research on the oil light coming on and off and found some post saying that if you don't drive the car enough, that sometimes the oil light can come on as some type of "false positive" with some condensation, blah, blah, etc. (don't remember it exactly). So since the car didn't always tell me I had low oil I figured I wasn't in that bad of shape.
So 2 nights ago I was driving into NYC and the actual light on the dash popped on (the orange one), not just the initial warning light. My car started to shake a bit which really freaked me out. Luckily I was about 2-3 miles from BMW of Manhattan. I got there as quickly as I could and had them top off my oil.
Now I notice that when I accelerate the power is not really smooth. I'm not sure if this is a byproduct of running the car with low oil or if it is some other problem associated with not driving the car for a while.
Currently there are no warning lights on or any codes being thrown. With that being said, when I accelerate onto the high way from 1st to 2nd it feels fine. But from 2nd to 3rd there starts to be a bit of a "hiccup". The car still pulls fairly hard but it really has me worried when I floor it. I can replicate the problem easily by cruising at about 40mph and then flooring it while in a high gear (5th or 6th). As the car is trying to speed up it "hiccups" quite a bit.
I'm wondering what do you guys think is going on with the car? Once again no errors anymore and starts up fine with no issues even in the cold.
Any ideas? Fuel pump? Turbos? Old gas?
Thanks for any feedback

It could be a few things but i would try a gas treatment, maybe your injectors are clogged or your fuel pump is going. Did you ever have your fuel pump replaced by BMW before?

Nope, never. I always kept at least a 1/4 tank of gas in my car as much as humanly possible. Currently the only "engine mods" I have are the BMS DCI and RPi air scoops. I had a JB3 for about 2k miles, but that has been off for about 8-10k miles.

Thanks for the tips guys. The car has ~20k miles on it. Do you think I should put the stock airbox back on it before I bring it to BMW?
