Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else has this issue........ When my '04 530i has been sitting outside for a few hours or more in the hot sun, it takes around 15 to sometimes 20 minutes to blow cold air. Once it starts to blow cold, it get really cold, it just take a long time to get there! I have had it checked out by the Stealership and ARA airconditioning and the both said they couldnt find anything wrong. The freon is fully charged and the compressor and everything check out fine. ARA said the cars only accept 1.25 pounds of freon and that is why it takes so long to get cold when the interior is hot. Does anyone else experience this? Thanks, Brad

My '08 535xi's A/C works properly, but it's not the most robust system I've had. I'm not sure if the controls have changed over time, but if possible you should have the system set to engage recirculation (Max A/C) automatically. Also, though I apologize for stating the obvious, it doesn't hurt to roll down all your windows for a minute or so to get rid of superheated air.

I just brought my 08 550 in for the same problem. SA mentioned that they have issues with the compressors and are seeing many of these in for this problem. Fortunately, it's under warranty. I'd hate to see what that would cost.

I noticed my 08 535 was lacking as well when I would get in it after it sat out all day in the sun at work. After driving a few minutes it would blow cold. I started putting the sun reflectors in the windshield while it was sitting out and this made a big difference. Now it's blowing cold much faster. I assumed it was due to the piping heating up from sitting in the sun. I will also have the windows tinted soon and I'm thinking this will also help it out. When the car is in my garage, it blows cold instantly.

My A/C blows cold almost instantly. However, even on recirculate it's slow to cool down the interior - especially for back seat passengers.

Even with those rear vents wide open, the working class in the back seat always complain while I'm making ice in the first class seats

What are your climate settings set to?

If you click Left from the home screen, you'll come across the climate page, where you'll have 1-4 bars, either white, red, or blue. If they're red, that means that the car is setting the vents to heat your car (Which you don't want), and if it's white, it means its neutral, and blue stands for cool. I usually set mine to the max of either setting when it turns winter/spring/summer, depending on the temperatures.

I find it counterintuitive that BMW put this menu in the iDrive, as on the new F10's, there's a dedicated slider for it.

My '04 545i occasionally takes too long to start cooling. Sporadic for sure and frustrating.
