It may be nothing more than a blown fuse for the blower motor. Did you check your fuses? If you're not sure how, check your owner's manual.

I thought about the fuse too, but wouldn't that have thrown an error warning on the iDrive? thanks tho - will definitely take a look at that.

Anyway, gentlemen, I'm on my way now to have this issue (hopefully) diagnosed.
I'll be sure and purchase a jumbo-sized bottle of KY and will report to you all soon enough about the circumference of the hole that I will most likely get ripped...
On a brighter note, if I am still under warranty, I'll prolly have the dealer fix a few other things while he's at it (even if they haven't technically failed yet ) - that's the world that we live in - its **** or be ****ed

If the fans do not work at all, it probably not the compressor. Let's hope it is not the compressor.
GL with getting it fixed today Vlad.
As far as your next ride goes, are you in the market for a lease assumption of a 2009 550i Sport in carbon black that has been "gently" driven at our meets and in between? It's garaged in nearby Manhattan but I think that the owner is a real jerk.
Seriously, the 335i coupe is an amazing car -- much quicker than 535 or 550 and easily moddable with ECU reflash to anout 380 bhp). If you don't need the extra space offered by an E60 (and I don't thonk that you do need the extra space), that would be an awesome next car fro you.

I had an X5 that lost the radiator cooling fan and it caused the compressor not to come on but it still blew air through the vent. Something to do with a relay to prevent the car from overheating. Not sure if it is related but something to consider. BTW it was $2k to replace the fan as the front shroud and bumper had to be removed to get to the fan, wtf. I traded the X in at that point as I was very disgusted.

ok, so poltergeist continues but this time it is good news: I came to the shop and started explaining to the mechanic what the problem was and that's right when I sensed a nice cool sensation on my hands... the HVAC came back on and started working again
the mechanic ventured an opinion that it might be that the car was running hot and some kind of relay simply was protecting the system. It made sense, since the weather's been kinda hot last few days... hopefully that's that, but who knows
best of all to y'all
