I am about to start the second summer on my 05 530. About 15-20% of the time that I get in the car and start it ,after it has been sitting in the sun, the compressor does not start immediately. It can take up to 3-4 min of driving for cool are to start pumping thru the vents.

Sometimes I can hit the compressor button and it will trigger the compressor. BMW service center says they cant recreate the problem.

Anyone notice this in their 5?

I have actually had this happen a handful of times. Usually when I have been forced to park the car outside at the airport for 3 or 4 days while traveling. Nothing near the 15%-20% of the time you report. Given the very sporadic nature of it, I have never brought the car to the dealer over it. As you report, turning off the AC then turning back on resolves the problem, but no idea what the cause might be.

I had this all last summer when it was very hot (for the UK anyway! ). Compared to my old Audi it is very slow to start pumping out cold air by which time I have already started sweating in my suit.

I will try your trick with turning compressor off then on again. Will have to wait until summer though to see if it works. 0-5 deg C at the moment.

I am going to press the issue this year, until they fix it. I have had my eyes on the Range Rover Sport..........But I do love the BMW and Active Steering. AS is a must. I understand it will be a option on the new x5.

I've had this issue as well, it never really bothered me, I just thought that it took longer cause I haven't used the car in a while. Next time it happens I will try the turn off/on the AC button. Thanks

I had that issue every time I started the car, it will only get cool after 3-4 minutes. Sent it in for a check and got the compressor replaced. I am located in all-year-summer Singapore BTW.

Thanks, I think that I must have a faulty sensor or switch if not compressor. Regards
