Hey guys!

So im in need of a new AC belt and tensioner for my 04 545i. I could not find a place online or local (Los Angeles Area) where they would sell them for cheap/ good price. I was wondering if anyone knew a supplier or a website i could order from.

'04 545i uses a stretch belt and NO idle/tensioner pulley. Your best bet on getting a replacement is directly from a BMW dealer.

Are you referring to the belt tensioner assembly for the alternator/water pump belt?

Supposedly one of the iterations of the N62 engine used on another model (maybe a 7-series) uses a different belt with a tensioner on the AC (I thought I had read that there was a mounting hole in the block already, but I forgot to look the other day.

I just did my water pump this week and had that AC belt off, and it is a bugger to get back on (of course that is probably just me, not handling belts often, and a seasoned mechanic could probably have the belt on in seconds). Took two of us, one below using an installation tool and guiding the belt and one manning the breaker bar to turn the crank.

Whether it mounts at the same place and belt will work (AC bracket on 745i may put pulley in a different position) I am not sure.

The belt tensioners are the same design ,, the difference is the A/C is left hand turn and the serpintine belt is right hand turn to remove the belt ....

N62 motor is precast for ac tensioner just below and between ac and crank pulley on front of engine. ...a tensioner is used on 02-07 745i & x5 4.4l models..... why it was deleted from the 545i is unknown...*eeuroparts.com*has tensioner p/n 534012110....ac belt p/n 4K 860...and serpentine belt p/n 11287539831 for around $78 delivered. Perfect solution....no more prying and pulling.

As luck would have it, my a/c belt just snapped. So, what the heck, I installed the tensioner and 4pk860 (?) belt on my '04 545i. It took all of 15 minutes to install tensioner and belt. Immediately, I noticed a faint vibration. Nothing determinate yet, but I will remove the belt and retest. If vibration goes away, it could mean that BMW eliminated the tensioner of the 5 series for this reason.

I don't think thats the reason they left it out . Installed mine over two yrs ago ,, and no issues ... I think they were trying to save money cause they left out the oil cooler too ..

Hey this is very helpful to me as I am trying to replace my ac belt as well because it's worn out and I can't use my ac as whenever I turn it on the belt just screeches and smokes and I don't want it to snap cus that's an unnecessary hassle. Anyway I would like to add the tensioner option to my car as it makes my life so much easier because if I ever need to replace it again I'll easily be able to do it. The thing is though I looked up those part numbers and a few websites came up and they say this tensioner won't fit my car, the 04 545i. Should I disregard that and just order the tensioner anyway? Can you confirm that this will for sure fit?
