alright - as ive understood it - there are three types of available seat.

- the standart regular seat (which im assuming exists - as you have to pay extra for the other two - and i doubt bmw has started selling cars without them :/)

- the sports seat

- and of course the comfort seat

Now i realise that each to his own, but i was wondering about your take on the different seats (as you guys obviously have to sit in your chosen seat when you drive - and have had more experience than a test drive).

of course im going to go out to the dealer and explore my options - but i you guys have more extensive experience.

so lets hear it. what do you have? what do you like? what dont you like?

The standard BMW seat comes trimmed in fabric in the UK and leatherette in the USA.
I have the standard SE seats with optional dakota leather. This is the cheapest leather option. My new car will have sports seats and again I have opted for dakota leather. The comfort seat is an active seat with exclusive leather and costs about the same as a small family hatchback. My dealer says they are purely a lux item and you would never get your money back come trade in.

I have the sports seats. My Sales advisor told me that comfort seats were almost the same except for the adjustable side cushions. I sat in comfort seats the other day. More cushion but just as firm.

Long term users on this board say that comfort seats are a must have $1200 option.

I have comfort seats. When I was ordering I was going to go with Sport seats but the wife wanted the comfort seats. No regrets at all.

The biggest differece is the back is articulated so you can adjust the upper portion of the back toward or away from you. This makes it so you can get the head rest closer to your head.(Many have complaind that on the sport and regular seats the headrest it to far back).

The side bolster are also adjustable on the Comfort seat to "hug" you. I don't know if this is true in the sport seat.

Get the comfort seats!! I wish that I had.
Oddly enough, I never had back problems until a month after I got my e60 (sport seats). I've tried many different combinations of seat/steering wheel positions. It could be something entirely unrelated... But it sure is an odd cooincidence. Actually, with 2-3 back appointments a week for the past 10 months, my massage lady will probably be a member of this forum soon.
