i was cruising on the highway with a friend of mine, when i reached 60km/h, i upshifted to M6 to save fuel. As i read somewhere here, upshifting helps mpg. As i did that, my friend tells me that putting it at 6th gear on such a low speed will damage the engine and the gears in the gearbox.

Is it true?

Come on now! Damage? Highly unlikely. Instead, you will just have no accelaration in that gear, and you engine RPM's will be very low. It will cause the engine to "bog down" when you try to accelerate. If you want to save gas, get a PRIUS!

Driving like that is no fun at all!

hey doc.when u wanna cruise around with a friend, u'd wanna save fuel. As when u wanna speed up, u buy a Sprint booster like i did and floor it.

there are times like this and times like that.

will the "bog down" affect my engine or acceleration in the long run?

Highly doubtful! But you might want to do the "25-second, accelerator hold-down" reset trick every now and then. Enjoy!

Not yet, my friend. I am waiting it out for now. This car rides very harsh as it is, even with the EDC on "comfort" mode. I may be reluctant to mess with things down there. We'll see.
