6HP19 transmission flush example
Hi folks,
I am fully aware of the transmission fluid change procedure as seen in the DIY and have performed it twice already. My second car is a Mercedes with the 722.6 5-spd autobox. Mercedes has an official procedure to completely flush the transmission by using 14 liters of fluid and the return line from the cooler. I happened to stumble on someone who did a flush using a different method:
Fast forward to 10:50; he is feeding fresh fluid to the transmission using a hose to flush the remaining fluid (in the converter probably), he does it 4 times.
Wouldn't this work on our cars, to get more old fluid out?
Upon first impression, it seems dangerous as it could potentially damage the transmission. But if the valve body doesn't need to be bathing in oil, I don't see what can be damaged...
I was looking at ways to do a real flush because doing only a pan drop is just like mixing fresh water in mud...
Thanks for your input

The general concept of replacing all of the transmission fluid is great However I think it could be pretty risky doing it this way. You don't want to run the transmission low on fluid while flushing it and it could happen here in my opinion.

i believe it was some guy on the jaguar forums who flushed his fluid by disconnecting the trans cooler line. it was the same transmission too. as long as you have a constant supply of fresh fluid, i think the risk of damage is very low.

i own a small shop for DIY'ers & recently used my bg flush machine to perform the bg transmission cleaning service & was AMAZED @ how filthy the fluid came at only 60k miles... i highly recommend doing a flush on your cara.. i just used the trans cooler line & ran it that way.. im happy to help anyone else with this if they are local to panama city, fl..

I just turned over 24K but plan on doing mine when it hits 50K. Will flush it via disconnecting the cooler return line option. Have already done it that way on our 2009 Altima and my son's E36 before he converted it to a manual transmission.
The key is making sure you do it in 1 quart intervals.

Just had a bg flush done at a local shop that specializes in Audi and BMW. It cycled 14 quarts of fresh fluid while cycling out 14 quarts of fluid that had run through the system. Car is at 102k and shifts smoother after the service. I was a bit concerned about the bg fully synthetic fluid that they used, but the lead tech swore by it and said they consistently use in in the BMW services and have have great things to say about it.
So far so good, I'll post back if there are any issues.
