Hi!

I have a 525i LCI born in september 2007 and I have two issues:

* I have a noise that sounds like when your brakepads are finished, steel to steel. But the sound is even when I?m standing still but not when I accelerate, only without acceleration. Can it be an injection thing?

* The other poblem is rattle just when the rpm is 1200, it might be the idrive but I can feel it a little in the steering wheel as well.

Anybody else with these problems?

Your brake disc grinding sound is the run-flat tyres. You can hear them at a constant speed but they are especially loud under braking - try using engine braking i.e. running down through the gears to slow the car down and you will still get the noise. You can't hear it on acceleration as you have unloaded the front tyres so they no longer make the noise.

I had exactly the same problem and I have just changed my tyres from runflat to standard and it is like I driving a different car, both in comfort and noise. Immediately after the change I believed I was driving at 60mph and was actually doing 90mph - the sound was so different. No more front grinding sound...

If your dealer has a 5er with the optional wheels on non-runflat tyres try taking that for a test drive.

I have a 530i new September 2007. The noise "sqeak sqeak"or "cheep cheep" on overrun...meaning foot off the accelerator... is know about by BMW. I have this problem. The noise is the high pressure fuel pump venting to release pressure. It happens on overrun between about 2500-1500 rpm. BMW do not have a solution at present. I suggest you contact your dealer to let you know if they find a solution. However I do not know if your noise is the same as my noise.

As for your rattle, get the dealer to check your car out. It could be an injector out of tolerance.

Look on the side-wall of the tire and look for a round symbol that says RSC - I believe that indicates run-flats.

There is usually an RFT (Run Flat tires), SST(self supporting tire) or EMT (Extended Mobility Tire) marking on the tire for example Bridgestone uses RFT, Dunlop uses SST and Goodyear EMT.

Chances are if you don't see anything saying RFT or SST on the tire then they are non-run flat.

Good luck

And Michelin call them ZP for Zero Pressure.
