I have no problems changing from one CD to another without taking my eyes of the road or hands of the steering wheel. Just push a button on the wheel say "CD4". Done.
Sorry I was not more specific. I oo have wheel loacted buttons to change from one loaded CD to another loaded CD, change tracks, raise/lower volume, etc. I really meant to say physically changing out one or more of the loaded CDs for another one or more CDs. This involves selecting the specific CD(s) you want to EJECT and LOADING new ones from your cache of those lying about in the vehicle. This is one reason I want my MP3 as one CDROM of MP3s is equal to appromimately 10 regular CDs. Or use the AUX (once I get my 6er modified) as others have suggested for a MP3 player. I use a Samsung Y910 player with built in FM transmitter. I do this primrily for playback of olde time radio recorded off the internet or SIRIUS and play back while driving to/from work or commuting between Kennedy Space Center and Norfolk, VA. Of course I'll also have my SIRIUS built in with the 6er as well so many of my kludges I use now will be gone.

Get an IPOD and forget about ever changing the cartridge.
I have a 20GB 1st Generation and I have 1978 songs on there. Some 'songs' are entire albums so actual song count is a lot more. I'm only about 2/5 full.

The sound quality is not quite up to CD's but then again I don't have an 'audiophile' type of sound quality in my car either either. I do prefer having my entire CD collections with me. I can play my daughter's children's music play list with only 2 clicks, my rap list with 2 clicks, my classical with another two clicks or play my entire song library randomly without ever repeating.

I currently have a 6-disc changer in my Lexus with 4 cartriges. Even with 24 CD's in my car, I like the IPOD option/flexibility much better. I was skeptical at first but I am a beliver in MP3/IPODs.

Speaking of the 6 CD Changer in the glove box. My 2005 530i has teh option of adding the CD Changer. After inspecting my glove box I see where a unit can be added.

Question: Do I have to go through the expensive dealership to get this added and installed or can I order the parts and install it myself? I heard that you must go through the dealership to atleast get the car to recognize the changer (software upgrade?).

Any truth to this? Thx for help.

you can install your own but it won't interface with idrive. that means you have to take it back to your dealer .
