i have the smaller non-nav 6.5 screen. i wanted to upgrade and replace it with an 8.8 screen. curious if theirs going to be any coding needed or will it be a direct swap? not going to add anything else, im just going to be getting a xcarlink to play videos and would like a better screen to use. thanks for any help.

It's plug and play, however, the idrive screen size will remain the same and be shifted to the side. Would only be full screen with whatever auxiliary display device you may choose to go with.

I would imagine that the MASK unit does not have the processing power to output the higher resolution and larger screen. The CCC is not the fastest either and struggles at times.

The Mask screens are 6.5 because there really is not much need for "parallel" displays of multiple things. With Nav, it is a good idea to keep showing the navigation on one side while doing other stuff in the idrive.

If you just replace the Mask with the CCC monitor, you will get a horizontally shifted and a little downward shifted screen. No coding will be needed.

If you need the actual navigaiton display, you will have to buy the CCC unit and code it to work with your car.

i wonder how horrible it would look shifted to the side. ill probably mostly be using it on input mode because im adding a carpc to my e60 so bigger screen is what ill be looking for, i dont want to add ccc, as i dont need the navigation from it as ill have navi from the pc. any way to code the bigger screen so it wont look as funny?

It doesn't look too bad shifted and there is no way to code it to fill the current screen. The MASK image would have to be stretched and would never look right.

+1. It's not bad. But the right question to ask is - what does it provide you? Not aesthetic, no extra info, little bit of ugliness, ....

I had the 8.8" with my MASK coz I knew I was eventually going to upgrade to the CCC, and because my modmynav unit allowed me to watch movies and the rear view camera gave me a nice wide angle on the 8.8". But I had friends who often told me, whoa whats going on with your car's electronics??

hi guys
i have a f10 manufactured 02/2013, its an m sport.

it has the 5.5 horrible screen no sat nav

i am reading all these different things about cic and nbt (what does this stand for?)

ultimately i just want a cheap upgrade to the bigger screen with the latest idrive software so I can do mirror play. I have the f series diagnostic and cable so can code

, i dont mind the android chinese ones on ebay which has all usual functionality plus more but a bit on the high side cost wise especially as its not OEM.

can I just purchase a screen off ebay, direct plug and play and then code it? how do i then get sat nav?

does the latest idrive software have mirror link? mirror my phone onto screen.

Default Screen compatibility

Can you use a standard OEM 6.5 inch screen with a BMW equipped with a navigation system? I replaced my 8.8 inch screen with one I obtained but it did not work. It is not coming on. The larger screen I had was fogged and crystalized.
