Are there real differences in the auto-trans used in the 550i vs the 535 (2009-2010)? If so, what are they. I have an 08 530 and the at sucks, imho.
Thanks for any input.

Not at all pleased with the shift response (delay) with the 530 box. Assume the 535 is similar.

It appears the 535i can be had with the same Sport Auto with paddles as the 550i. I can tell you there is no delay with the 550i SAT upshifts or downshifts with both sport modes set (shifter and console button). Its MUCH more responsive than the older steptronic.

Just do a test drive and find out.

My LCI Steptronic is incredibly fast with its shifts in manual mode. The Step and the SAT share the same internals.

I thought I read here that BMW improved the auto transmission's shift times in the LCI trans but I will defer to those here more technically saavy than I am on that.

No, they both have the transmission slam.

The "sport" button on the SAT shifter greatly improves the already fast shifts..

As does "DS" mode on the Steptronic.

+1 my car shifts like beast in DS. complete oppisite of that nissan maxima commercial where the woman is waiting to put on her lipstick while her husband is driving because she is anticipating the shift.

I thought I read somewheare that the V-8 units had a different transmission than the L-6. Maybe I was thinking of the M5. Anyway, the Step works fine in normal traffic and flat road, but when I put my foot on the floor, I don't want 3 seconds of delay!
