Just completed a round trip to North Carolina, and what a great trip. Traffic was moving 80 to 85 most of the way and still averaged 24.3 mpg. The car is a real blast on the longer ride, you just don't want to stop. The run flats were not bad either, when you keep um warm.

No reason not to believe him. He did not say his average speed was 80-85. I frequently average 26 in the 4.4L in freeway travel. 450 miles on a tank is achievable in these conditions. Even when sprinkled with runs up to 100 mph and average 80mph I get 24 mpg. My figures are calculated, not iDrive numbers as they typically are positively biased.

I averaged about the same this past August on a 400+ mile trip. This also included quite a bit of 80-90mph traveling.
I found you just have to know how to drive efficiently. Not difficult at all.

YOU DID NOT AVERAGE 24.3 MPG IN A 550I ..... RE CHECK YOUR CAR !
I believe it. I get 18 in the city/highway.
If you leave cruise on I would expect to get 24-25. Heck the cars epa highway rating is 27.

Nevertheless, I believe jim911's figure -- I'm seeing similar hwy mileage in my car, and I'm not even trying to be very fuel efficient. Hell, if I wanted to go a constant 70, I may be pushing the high 20s.
Also agree you have to manually check the MPG, as the trip computer tends to be optimistic (about 5% in my case).

I did not try for milage at all, half this trip is in the blue ridge mountains pushing pretty hard. Then from southern indiana to the milw. area is flat. I have no reason to BS about it, I just think it's amazing how good cars are today. As far as averages the one section we averaged 73.2 MPH for about 325 miles.

I think it's more like 22-24 hwy, depending on the transmission.
Nevertheless, I believe jim911's figure -- I'm seeing similar hwy mileage in my car, and I'm not even trying to be very fuel efficient. Hell, if I wanted to go a constant 70, I may be pushing the high 20s.

I was wrong. According to the brochure and my sticker...its 17 City 25 Highway.
