I am looking into a 550i and wanted to ask actual owners only about their thoughts on fuel economy. My 535i used to give me around 18 mpg combined, how about the 550i (2008)?

depends on how you drive it (are able to drive it

around my small town (granny style) - 21~22

around town (badass style) - 18

highway - 6 hours NY to MA - 26 (hilly, flat is around 27-28)

Boston - 15 (maybe less )

but thats just my foot - i am taking pride in edging out the cruise control.

when you test drive them let cruise control take over - it actually does very close to maximum efficiency - should give you a comparison between 550's too - id imagine better fuel economy = better shape car (dont quote me on that)

When my car was operable, I was getting around 20.5 MPG with 60/40 city and highway, not bad considering my wife's previous MDX was around 17 MPG

iam finding it hard to believe some of these responses but........
i have never seen better than 15 and average 14.

on the other side:
its not a daily driver and mainly off the freeways.

and with premium gas where its at expect 70+ at the pump

Not to discourage because it is an awesome car to drive!!!

I know it's a V-8 but I don't think it's that bad. The only time I ever got around 14-15 MPG was straight up stop and go traffic on 405 down in So. Cal but eventually I went up as I got out of the city.

I usually reset my Idrive every time I filled up to keep track so the MPG I posted is when the tank is near empty.

15.5 when I drive like grandma on a mixed commute. I've been having fun this week and am averaging only slightly more than 10mpg according to the computer. Highway trips at 70 mph on cruise control can yield 23.5 mpg.
