I just got a used 2008 550i with about 8000 miles on it. Is it normal for the 550i that when you try to accelerate, when you press on the throttle just a little it doesn't seem like it's accelerating that fast and then when you press on the throttle a little more, the car just takes off? I don't know if it's normal or not.

I am talking about first gear. Normal driving mode. Not DS mode. Everyone that drives my car notice that about first year. You press the gas down and it moves but not steadily and when you give it more throttle, it just goes.

Assuming that you have an auto tranny try to do 30 sec reset. Also not that in the regular auto mode tranny starts in the second gear.

It is common with cars with an electronically controlled accelerators/throttle. Read up on "sprint boosters" and you will find a lot of answers to your question.
