550i 3rd place vs. Jag and Merc.?

If BMWis on top, it's not news.
Both Edmunds and Autospies want to make news.
In any rate, Jag and Merc is smart to up the ante with 420HP & 385HP respectively. It skew the market and avoid the head-to-head competition against 550i (Jag and Merc knows they'll get killed otherwise).

Also, Autospies was simply reporting (and translating) a four-way comparison test that was actually done by Autozeitung in Germany. The XF didn't win that the test, but it did take 2nd, with the 550i in 3rd place.

I don't really care how well it handles, it still looks like a Buick.

There's no way that Jaguar handles better than any 5er with Sport package.
No way.

I don't know why people are so 'I can't believe it'.
Bear in mind that it's a massive compliment that so long after launch it's still the car to beat. It the Jag is up there then I'd be very happy. OK, it's no longer a Brit machine, but I'd like to see Jag succeed, and to do that it's going to have to be able to compete with the best of the rest.
One test is not the end of the 5 though. Some will still prefer that over and above a Jag when depreciation, cost of ownership etc are taken into consideration.
I know it's take something very special to get me out of a 5-series now that I'm in one.
