Just curious.... why buy a 540iA then mod it to include an M5 diff, suspension, brakes, etc. etc. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to buy an M5?
E39 M5 2003 is 5.200.000 ISK here, thus E39 540iA is 1.900.000 ISK

does this all make sense now :?:

Cracks me up how some folks seem to think a BMW is about quarter mile times. BMWs are about curves and road race courses. Something mustangs don't do very well at no matter how much money you toss at them. I don't see a lot of mustangs winning in SCCA races. They do horrible in the Rolex Sports car series. I don't know a lot of people that buy a BMW because they want do hit the drag strip.
You don't watch much racing, do you? If the Mustangs do "horrible" as you say, then those M3s must be absolutely horrendous considering they're virtually always trailing behind the Mustang. Also keep in mind that the Mustangs had been so dominate in their class(es) that the SCCA (I think they're the ruling body over KONI Challenge, Rolex, et. al.) hit them with a substantial weight penalty just so the other cars could remain competitive.

On topic, is there a derivative of the 4.4 or 4.8 used in the DTM series racing? And is there even a racing series (other than Australian Supercars) that the 5-series, E-class, etc. participates in?

edit
Now that I think about it, they're not even in Australian Supercars...

pointerman has no clue... maximummotorsports.com sells suspension kits that cost $2254 for 90-93 that will make it pull almost a 1g!

"Motor Trend confirmed the impressive handling ability of this suspension package when they tested it for 5.0 Mustang magazine (results published in the December, 1998 issue of 5.0 Mustang). A high-mileage 1990 LX outfitted with the Road & Track Box tied for the 3rd fastest slalom speed ever recorded by Motor Trend. To this day, the 72.5 MPH slalom speed achieved in that test is still near the top of the all-time slalom speed list."

Slalom.pdf

dont get me wrong, i love bmw but im also realistic that BMWs are not be all or end all of sports cars...

btw- a '95 m3 placed 10th lol

Really, I have no clue? Are you aware the 5 series with the factory sports package pulls .91g? That is bone stock. I do watch quite a bit of racing (prefer the ALMS and Rolex) and I don't see any 'Stangs doing very well at all.

With a chassis that is 25 years newer... True, the GT500 isn't doing too well in ALMS, but it's their first season and they came onboard already saddled with a weight penalty thanks to the Mustang GT's dominance over in Grand Am. But to be fair, when's the last time you saw a BMW (street car) team on the podium at ALMS or Rolex?

I believe for ALMS that was around 2002 (can't recall the exact year) when they last competed. They are returning next year. With Corvette moving from GT1 to GT2 next year that class should be really exciting. Can't wait.

no 5 series pulls .91?gs, at best an ?08 550 got .89. even an ?07 m5 pulled .83. the '08 135 got the .91. the fact that mustangs don?t do well on certain races doesn?t prove its inferior. The car is only a part of the winning equation, perhaps they have a bad crew, bad driver, etc.. my point was to address your statement that mustang aren?t capable which in fact they are and for a whole lot less money.

ISK is a worthless currency.... one of many reasons why Iceland is shaking down to a fall....

If you want a unexpensive holiday..... come here

Dollar was 60 ISK last year... now it's around 180 ISK...

want cheap cars... buy ones here

www.bilasolur.is, if you need translations just ask....
