How much quicker from 0 to 60mph or 0 to 100mph is an SMG 545i or 6 spd manual 545i than a steptronic 545i??

2005 5 series broshure states 6-speed is 5.7 sec (0-60 mph) or 5.8 sec with automatic tranny. Not a deciding factor per se.

The only major advantages my 545i has over my G35 is in 2 areas.
1. Power - obviously... The G35 is weak in the mid range, and relaly shows compared to the 545
2. Sturdy confidence - While I can get where I am going just as fast in the G35 (Ortega Canyon about once a week) - It is work for me and the car... the Slip Control will have given up by the end of the trip :-), The 545i on the other hand at the same speeds handles it with alot smoother.
Like EM BOTH - But the 545i has stolen my heart... :-)

G35 Sport Coupe Manual 6sp 0-60 6.1 sec, 1/4 mile in 14.6 sec @ 98.6 mpn
Shouldn't be a problem - especially with a Steptronic - no shifting to worry about.

The 545is is a quick four door car, but the best part about this car IMHO is in the 40/50/60 mile range. When on the highway at those speeds you can drop it into 3-4th gear in this f&^%$r bolts.
I was on my way to Cape Cod yesterday. I'm behind this 18 wheeler (two lanes). I'm just crusing so he didn't bother me at first, he was going 60 in a 60mph zone. But he stayed in the passing lane for about 3-4 minutes. I finally tired of being behind him. Coming up on my right rear flank in the traveling lane is a congo line of cars looking to pass on the right. I had just enough time to drop 2 gears, slip ahead of them to my right, mash the peddle to the floor........well like I said this car rockets up to 110mph in seconds........what a rush. I pulled away with such ease I had to wonder what the person behind me was thinking. All this while blasting the L7 (of course).
I would most likely go with an SMG if I were single or my wife was not interested in driving it.

I chose the steptronic for the sole reason that I have been driving a manual for the last 12years and most of my driving is stop and go in the city. I just got tired of shifting/clutching. My next one will probably be an SMG. (I've hadmy car for 3 days and I'm already talking about the NEXT one . The wife will kill me.) I've always been a drive your car until it drops person. Now that I'm in my 5er I should have done this along time ago.

[/quote]The manuals are supposedly 4-tenths of a second quicker than the autos. I thought the R/T test was a SMG car (or 6 spd)?
You'll smoke 'im either way!
