Not me. Now a 535d would be a trade I could make - I can't stand even more gas guzzling. The 550 in some trannies has a guzzler tax right?

Personal opinion:
It is no attractive for me to trade-in my 545 for 550. my baby still 2 months old with 3000 KM on it.
I do not think the additional HP justify it.

I Dont think there is THAT huge difference between the 545 and the 550. if it is a matter of horse power/performance M5 will be the answer.

I would never switch from 545 to 550, but 545 to M5 that's a diffrent story.

Of course, I have to dump the 545 before it's outside of warranty or, alternatively, have myself committed to an insane asylum and keep the car, which likely would, even resting idly in the insane asylum parking lot, waiting for me to be discharged, have something malfunction outside of warranty.

550? Likely not. 750? Possibly. Slightly used M5? Maybe. Driving one of those in Little Rock would be as rare as seeing a spaceship full of Martians.

Z4 roadster in the garage for spring, fall and warm winter days, and a slightly used but heavily devalued Cadillac for business? Ahhhhhhhhhh. Now, that may be the ticket.

[quote name='5 Rakete' date='Sep 13 2005, 08:17 PM']Not because of the performance improvement (although it's a plus) but I will give my wife the 545i (she wants the comfort seats anyway) and I'll dump her 330Ci and get myself a 2007 550i. Maybe. I also want a 2006 Corvette Z06, and Porsche 911 Carrera 4S,...

It's a sickness with no cure.

[quote name='530iii' date='Sep 13 2005, 05:19 PM']Ok, given the "huge" performance jump according to some, who's gonna trade in their 545i for a 550i if not now in a few years?

Why not the m5 ?

Can't stomach driving that much money every day up and down the freeway behind buses, gravel trucks, etc.

Not me.

What "huge" performance jump? 0.3 sec. improvement 0 - 60 MPH according to BMW.

I definitely will keep mine for, say, 3 years. Also, I don't like first year cars even if they are BMWs. I have added a B&B exhaust and a Dinan throttle body. Given the weight savings of the B&B, I have added the equivalent of about 20 RWHP (about 24 diluted HP)--which ought to be close to the equal of the 550i's 360 diluted HP. Dinan is supposed to have a cold air intake, programming, and maybe a MAF out at the end of Sept. (we'll see). I plan to do all, but will do at least the intake. I will take the intake and exhaust off when disposing of my car if I can't get enough for it with these items on. I don't expect the 550i to be more than .3 secs. faster in the 1/4 regardless of what has been said otherwise.

Just curious, how did you calculate that the weight savings of the B&B muffler added the equivalent of 24 HP?

I wish it did. Darn. ~(:^) My calc. was [(8 throttle body + 10 B& / .85] + 3 HP ( 30 lb weight savings of B& = 24. One also can add about 4 HP simply by removing the spare tire and jack while driving in the city (weighs almost 40 pounds)--giving a 27 HP gain. A saving of 10 pounds equates to about 1 advertized HP--which can be shown by playing with LB / HP ratios. You have a beautiful car, but see my sig. ~(;^)

Not to play semantics, but as i said "some" have stated the 550i will have a sub 5 second 0 to 60mph time, .5 second improvement in the 1/4 mile meaning a 108+mph trap speed and at least a .5 second improvement in 0 to 100mph times.

I guess we'll see when the 1st 550i's reach our shores.

Of course there's always someone else faster on the road but i'd rather be one of them.
