Do you think they will have a turbo kit for the 545i soon? Since BMW is coming out with a 4.4L, twin-turbo N64 V8 good for about 400 horsepower and 450 ft.-lbs. of torque, I am thinking maybe they will have a turbo kit for us. What's our engine code btw??

KIT? no. Not from BMW
New car yes. F10 called either 550i or 555i
Aftermarket, I 'm sure if you come up with the Green most of the tuners would be more than happy to take your money for a one off turbo system or super charger. Dinan had Superchargers for the e46 M3 and z3m's.

I dont think that will ever hap...if your lucky maybe VF Enginnering will make a supercharger kit for the E60 545I/550.

IMO, If you want some boost...just go with a 535i or wait til BMW comes out with a V8 twin-turbo V8 + BMW warranty = FTW

Research I've done seems to be that VF was close (had a protype) and then ran out of funding. Since then its been on hold. Some thread on this board or another board someone that was in keeping communication with VF got an estimated price out of them and it was around 7k or so if I remember correctly.

I believe some European company does make one but the price was outrageous. Something like 11k or 14K.

Yea man alot of members been looking for a supercharger or turbo for their 545i. (even me self)

But not really any luck with the product coming through from any of the big companies.

Hope you the best on finding one.

If you do run in to anything make sure you get me a second set.

Good Luck with the search , keep us posted.

i'll build one then....j/k. i dunno how to remap the ECU tho. Parts are easy but still need to lower the compression ratio. Possibly new injectors, fuel pump, head studs...list goes on

I?ve been looking to use the N62 for my race car, so I?ve done some reasearch work.

First realiablility roadblock +400hp

The crankshaft.
OEM is i moulded piece. My beleve is that this piece of junk needs to be replaced even at moderate power attempts.

To go to Alpina 530hp/700Nm level needs a forged crank, to retain realiability.
It is off course possible to replace the crankshaft with an aftermarket one. I think Doug Kiddie (DKE) in UK got them off the shelf, They have done a lot of Alpina cranks, at least they did it before.

But without doing that, what is the purpose of slapping on a turbo kit, if you only can get to ~400-420Hp/550Nm with retained reability?

When you have looked in your wallet and start thinking " -What the hell, lets go for it. I?ll buy a DKE crank"

You will then run into the next roadblock +550hp

The open deck design, and no steel liners, is not prefered with high cylindrical pressures.
You?ll have to Sleeve the block, Sleeving will probably be needed if exceeding the alpina 530hp/700Nm range.
And what is the purpose of doing all this without get some real power
A Darton M.I.D sleeve solution will solve this problem. (get them o-ringed directly to withstand next step)
Head gaskets, pistons, connecting rods and all the other classic turbo conversion parts is already replaced.

Next Roadblock 700-1000Hp

Camshafts, New head and main cap bolts, head work, valves & springs (At least exhaust valves and seats), Main cap girdle, inserts for main cap bolts & headbolts (To not rip them out of the block) o-ringed block. Reinforcement in heads between combustion chambers (If not already inmoulded from factory)

And then you have the Vanos and Valvetronic systems in the N62, how will this be affected from high revs and high cylindrical pressures?

Personally I would stopped att Alpina Level to avoid expensive re-design of the complete engine.
There is better engines to build on if you need more power.

If horsepower is all you are looking for, Dinan has a kit around $1k that will bump your horsepower and torque to 350 HP. Might be worth while to investigate?
