Hi,

Is there any update on this thread? Has anyone resolved this issue?

I'm having a really rough idle on a 545i, 2004, 108k mileage. On immediate start up, she's fine. After about 3 minutes, she runs rough for about another 15 minutes but then is ok for the rest of the day.

I've been told it's the vanos, the valvetronics and everything. Basically, no one is much the wiser and the two local good indy's are both offline at the moment.

There are no oil leaks (also had the rocker covers and gaskets replaced) and the coil packs and sparks have been changed too.

Anyone any ideas?

You're looking at a vacuum leak or valvetronic issue. What have you troubleshooted up to this point. It's easy to check the valvetronic. Take it off and do a visual check. Under that are vacuum lines that crack. Check the lines.

My problem turned out to just be a vacuum leak. When I did the valve cover gaskets the kit i bought had defective rubber and they dry rotted and started leaking again within 30days (Buy OEM, a lesson i keep learning over and over). I had to do valve covers twice. Sold the car and bought an E63 M6 and E53 3.0l 2 years ago. The N62 engine just leaks everywhere. Hope you figure it out, get it smoke tested for leaks.

I have a 2004 BMW 545i which is having the exact same prop what I did they didn't complete oil change after doing that oil change I put in one of the big bottles of of Marvel's Mystery Oil Also I ran fuel injector cleaner through it at the same time Lucas within about 24 hours the rough idle stopped and the car started running great again also clean the throttle body
