Did they put more wood in an 05' 545 than in an 06' 550? Not to my knowledge.

OK....now the good news is that Dunlop will pay for a full set
replacement ONCE, and only if the mileage is under 20K (apparently,
even though there is NO warranty on these tires, Dunlop expects
them to last 20K miles). According to my service rep, Dunlop
has reformulated the tire and that's why they're doing a replacement.
Right. So I asked my service rep if I can get another replacement
set if the same thing happens. Nope. Apparently, Dunlop is not
THAT confident to replace more than one set. My bet is that it's
the same tire and with two sets, you'll get past 20K one way or
another......and that's what you would've gotten with a set
of Dunlops w/out problems.
I've already had two Dunlop replacements and the BMW service bulletin on the issue doesn't mention anything about only replacing them once. There are other forum members here who have had multiple replacements and I know of at least one who's had more than two replacements. As far as I'm concerned, the Dunlops aren't that bad of a tire (when they're not roaring) and I'm okay with free replacements every 8000 miles or so...)

Dear BMWCCC---I am considering buying a new 07 550i. My current vehicle is impeccable with plenty of warranty on it and 14,500mi. If you are in the Northeast, contact me thru the FORUM.
Good luck,

4. Lastly, more of subjective question but if the budget was tight to get the 2005 545i, would there be any compelling reason the pinch for the 2006 550i equally outfitted?

Thanks in advance

I think overall quality is likely to be better, so if your owning long term, a 550 is a wise choice. Based on comments on this board, the 04s had their share of issues and the 05s seem much improved. I have a 06 550 and its been super solid. Only one software update to fix a minor active steering issue.

You should always consider available financing rates, as a good promotion rate can really narrow the cost difference between used and new. These should be available sometime on 06s with 07s now out.

Hi everyone, I am in the process of looking for a 2005 545i. I have a couple questions and hope you guys can help me out.

1. What was the last month in 2005 they produced the 545i? ( i am guessing July )

2. What differences are there on the 2005 545i vs. the 2006 550i? ( besides the engine )
ex: gauges, steering wheel, leather, wood trim, nav software, compartment & storage areas, oem tires, brakes, body style alterations even if minimal, bluetooth,

3. I have read on this and other forums of a problem with the 545i burning through tires very quickly, what caused this problem and did bmw fix the problem.

4. Lastly, more of subjective question but if the budget was tight to get the 2005 545i, would there be any compelling reason the pinch for the 2006 550i equally outfitted?

Thanks in advance

My Ride: e60 545i, build date july '04, saphire metallic black, auburn interior, sports package.

I drive a June '04 build 545i and have not had much to complain about. I have a manual with the sport setup and it has been a very solid car. The runflats have not been too much of a problem except that they are very poor on rain or snow. I have not pushed yet for replacement tires though I only have 8000 miles on the car (my drive to work is only 2 miles). I may have more complaints as I add miles.

I had the same decision to make and I opted for the 2005 545i. I found a CPO car with the 6-speed manual tranny (hard to find) for just over $52K @ 17K miles on odometer. The money that I am saving by not getting the 550 will go to mods, vacation, other toys!

Thanks for all the advice guys. Realistically, I think the budget calls for the 545i. I will search for a late model 05' with all the goodies here on the west coast.
