How many 545i drivers always drive with their air condition ON? If so, do you notice a significant difference in the idle quality when the car is idling in Park and Drive with the air condition ON and OFF?
I notice my car's idle quality is much better with the air condition ON when it is idling in Park and Drive as opposed to when the air condition is OFF.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

My idle speed jumps almost 100 rpm when A/C is on.
BENIFITS: Idle seems smoother.
BENIFITS: Car can make smoother (less jerk) full stops.
DOWNSIDE: Car wants to idle away from stop with no accelerator pedal to 5MPH on it's own.

Not a 545i, but...
On my E39 535i (smaller V8; never made it to the US), putting a/c on meant idle went from ~470 rpm to ~600 rpm. I did not like it, as the engine was noticeably "running", whereas it was very smooth and unnoticeable without. "Creep" was also much stronger, so heavy foot on brake or engaging neutral at lights were absolutely compulsory (useless parking brake on E39). This seems very consistent with wmhandy's observations.
On E61 535d, idle speed or smoothness (
) does not change, but then again it's a diesel, so torque at low rpm is very very high.

Not related to your original question (as I have a 530i and 6MT) but I have noticed that with the A/C ON, my car loses RPMs much faster making it harder to shift smoothly (and it does idle a little bit higher)

Iceman has his A/C on all the time. He can walk in the winter park with only T-shirt on. That's why he and his friend calls him the "ice man" ![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
I don't like to have A/C on because the fan noise is excessive sometime.

a/c not always on. Idle quality same for both...smooth.
rpm @ 800 during a/c operation - but not always, goes back to 500rpm when cabin has reached desired climate conditions...
agree with some, creeping power is obviously higher when working @800rpm which makes for a heavier braking foot when idle - don't really like that.
