545 top speed confirmed!!!

I doubt a radar detector is going to do you any good at that speed. You wouldn't be able to slow down quick enough unless they were using the super old detectors that go of way in advance (not a chance with laser).

Plus, I would feel sorry for the cops that would have to do a full body cavity search on me...especially on my rear cavity. LOL!

3 weeks ago while traveling to St Louis on I-70, I confirmed the top speed of my 545. It was about 10 pm no traffic coming or going in either direction. I gradually laid on to the accelerator, then 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, At this point I get a llittle nervous but the dash say 160 so I kept going. Got to 155 and that was it. Thats where the speed limiter is. Wouldn't go any faster. Car felt very stable. 155 felt like 90. No sway or vibration at all. This was a very drama free experience. Afterwards I lifted off the gas and coasted back down to 80. There was still no traffic in either directons. It didn't feel fast because there was nothing out there, the car didn't feel like it was traveling that fast, and it was dark, so I couldn't see things on the side of me passing in a blur. This is my first and last time doing this and any further attemps like this will be done on a track.
same docile conditions exist as you described, drama free.

Hello all,
Yes I had a radar ( not a V1 either) and it didn't beep one peep. In in IL they probably would have taken me to jail, if they could catch me . I kinda had an out if that happened though. My previous top speed was 140. Im kinda a semi pro driver. I've done many driving events/ training events from all manufacturers and just got back from driving a stock car (nextel cup) @ Las Vegas Motor speed way. Funny thing is , I went faster in the BMW than I did @ the track . Anyway that doesn't make it safe or right what I did, but it sure was fun. I must say this car is an incredible piece of engineering as it made what should have been a high drama experience seem like a Sunday drive!!!
Again the traffic conditions were perfect. No cars as far as the eyes could see coming or going. I do think it would have gone faster though. 160 for sure, but I think it would have gone maybe 165+. I didnt stomp on it, I just eased on the gas. when I did 140 before im my Mustang (convt) it really felt like it. I felt a lot of wind around the top of the windows. 155 felt so normal that I could have taken a picture during the process!!!
