You shouldn't use the automatic (D) mode.? Just leave it in normal (manual) mode -- it'll shift as long as you plant your foot down and stick it to the floor.? If you lift at all, it'll stop launch mode and it won't shift.

It looks like you're doing everything else correctly.? Good luck.

Thanks Rudy - I will give it a try as soon as it stops raining.

It actually works in both modes just fine.

It finally stoppedraining long enough for me to try the launch control. To resolve a minor dispute, it works the same in both manula and automatic mode.

Short tire spin comming off the line, a nice chirp goin into second. I real rush. Not as dramatic as the M3 launch, which lets you hold the revs (by holding the stick forward) as long as you wantt, but still alot of fun.

If I keep this up, I will have a real excuse to get rid of the F&!%@&* run flats

So did you figure out what you were doing wrong earlier? Also, I wasn't aware that the "holding the stick" method did anything with our cars. I thought that only worked on the M versions...

Since you're willing to tear up your run flats (I'm tempted as well) and since you've done it more times than me, I'd love to hear any additional experiences you have or any additional details, video, etc. you might find time to post...

The "holding the stick" does not work on the E60 - I only mentioned that for comparison purposes.

I realize I will wear out the tires but, as most of us seem to agree, the run flats are not as good as other options. Before I had this car, I had a E39 - 2002 530ia w/ steptronic. I had only a 30 month lease and still got hit for new tires when I returned the car do to excessive wear. The price for driving aggresively I guess. My lease is now 36 months, and the 545 is much more powerful, so I figure I am buyin the tires no matter what. If that is thecase, I would like to get the benefit of tthe new tires. I will try to tear up the run flats ASAP and then get some new ones.

As for the launch control, no vid available. I did it a few times and tried to see if I could control the length/time of the burnout. No luck. Since you have to step doen all the way to get the "drop" into gear, i found I had little control. Just press down and hold on.

Here is what I do for more control instead of Acceleration Assistant:

1. Turn off both DTC and DSC.
2. Put selector in N
3. Put left foot on brake.
4. Rev engine to about 4500 RPM or your preference.
5. Put selector in D just as you are taking left foot off brake.
6. Hold on.
7. Remember to shift yourself.

I find it gives me more control of the engine speed than with AA. The reason for the brake is because SMG locks you out of D from N when the car is at a standstill unless your foot is on the brake.
