My Ride: Ordered Jan 11/05
545 Step, Black Saphire, Truffle Brown, Sport, Logic, Sat Prep
Waiting.........................
After hearing so much negative feedback from the run flats (noise, vibration, premature wearing), I was wondering if anyone has replaced their OEM tires with non run-flats.
I heard that the wheels were designed specifically for the run-flats.
Anybody have experience.
Thanks in advance.

I can promise you that if you have a 545i Sport with the 124 rims, you CAN use a non-runflat tire. I've done it. Twice, in fact. I'm running Conti SportContact2s now, and love them. PS2s handle better, but they ride harder and make more tread noise. For me, the Contis are perfect. The handle wonderfully, but still ride very well too.

I replaced them with Good Yeaer Eagle F1 GS-D3. the ride is a lot smoother, but I am having difficulties balancing them. I guess the suspension is designed for run flats.

Casper, my 2002 330i came with Goodyear tires and I also was unable to get them balanced. Finally I contacted Goodyear, they had me go to a company store where they replaced my almost new OEM Goodyear tires with another set. They were unable to balance those too. They offered to buy back my GoodYear tires, I was amazed and really pleased. I went out and bought a set of Pilot Primacy. They were great, not just because of the ride, handling etc, but because I put over 20,000 mile on them. I have not had good luck with GoodYear tires on BMW's.
Good Luck

I have the Goodyears and they are the best tires I've ever owned. There should be no problem at all balancing them. The 545 without runflats is much smoother, but since the sidewalls are much softer, the turn-in is not quite as crisp. That's what I found with my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires on the OEM rims. You might consider aftermarket 19" wheels with the Goodyear tires. Worth every penny believe me!

Interesting, I can not get them to balance. I ahve been back to the good year store 3 times, the last tme they even replaced a rear tire, but the car is not balances and is annoying. I get a vibration/jumping feeling at around 45 and it gets worse at 65 to 70, but is intermittent, sometimes I do not feel it and when I am starting to believe is fine, It comes back.

I've got the GSD3s, and one ended up being replaced due to being out of round. Took 3 shops to get to someone who knew what they were doing.
I'm surprised that we're having so much trouble with these Goodyears - they're usually exceptional tires, and are, once they're set up right. I wonder if it isn't the 275s that Goodyear's having trouble with - the set on my old 540 (245s and 255s) and the fronts on the E60 (245s) were all fine. It's the 275s on the back that were the problem.
