I agree - I think it's still up in the air. The 750 was renamed in part because the body was redesigned. Can anyone here name a BMW that was renamed with JUST an engine upgrade?

Maybe they don't want to put out two completely different "five" litre E60s in the same year. The M5 is also a 5L.

75% of the people on here seem to think it will be badged a 550. Although none of us really know. We just have to wait until real details are known.

My opinion is that the will change the name to 550. Going through the expense of changing the engine and then still calling it a 545 would be a waste here in the states. It would make more financial sense to change the badge and leave the old engine. The vast majority of the US buyer, buy image and won't even notice the engine upgrade.
Remember this is the land of Lexus/Infiniti/Acura where we pay $10,000 more for a badge.
Wasn't there a thread awhile back on this subject, and someone said there was actually a part number for the 550i badge?? If this is so makes one think BMW IS planning on calling it a 550......of course, with BMW you never know........and I may be making too much of an assumption here! And, I may be remembering the contents of the previous thread incorrectly....and I'm too lazy to go back and look!!
We are the same people with the same opinions, so the older thread might sound a little deja vu.
