Default 535xi valve cover job

Hey all,

i studied this job pretty hard before i took it on and surprisingly little info out there..
The info i did find was not accurate for my application.
My car does not have valvetronic but the DIY i found did. perhaps the DIY was for n52 vs my n54?
Anyway, not bad of a job. Autozone had thin wall spark plug socket cheap it worked great.
I should have written up a DIY myself with some little tricks I found like removing vacuum reservoir next to coil wire harness, and removing bolts completely from fuel rail mount.
Also, I struggled to remove valve cover after all bolts were loose. I had to grab each bolt with a needle nose and kind of shake them even though bolt threads were completely backed out before it popped off.
My question now is what is the torque value? I have read in several areas its a torque turn method, and I have seen straight torque numbers posted as well. I know a BMW tech and will ask him and post here as well, just wondering why I'm struggling to find it. Maybe its just me...

If that winds up being 10 n-M then cool. Anymore than that could result in broken bolt.

@docbubba1

Sounds like you didn't enjoy it lol, how long did it take? Did you replace or reuse those aluminum bolts?

My son and I did it together, took our time. Probably had 2 hours in disassembly, hour in cleaning and prep, another 1.5 in assembly. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
BMW techs do not replace bolts so I didn't either, just torqued to spec and let er buck! 😁
