My Ride: boosted 5er !
I have 2008 535xi and just bought some rims, rims size is 19x8.5 fronts and 19x9 rears, i was advise by a buddy that i cannot throw just throw on any size due the car being "xi" it will damage the drivetrain, i was thinking about doing 245-35-19 fronts and 265-35-19 rears, can anyone with a xi shed some light, tks !

The main thing is the offset of the rims. If that's fine you just need tires that fit properly. I believe the standard/recommended is 245/35/19 and 275/30/19.

Proper recommended tire fitment are as crypto said 245/35-19 & 275/30-19 which what I'm using too, but if I have to do it over again I'd go 285/30-19 rear ... maybe next time around
Your buddy kinda right in a way ... you just need to watch the front and rear are in the same (or real close) in diameter to avoid drivetrain confusion (more like strain probably).

I gotta say, I've been reading on and off about the same question and now that the topic is open I'll jump in . What IS the proper offset? Someone previously suggested to me that sport vs. non-sport makes a difference, but how do I tell if I have a sport or not. I have a tail/lip/'whatever it's called' I'm brain farting atm in the back, would that be sufficient? Also I do not plan on lowering the car.

Sport pkg and non-Sport pkg on xi/AWD is just cosmetic ... unlike RWD model it comes w/ sport tuned suspension and active (quick) steering maybe among other stuff.
On xi/AWD only looks i.e. blacked out (shadowline) windows frame as oppose to chrome and steering wheel w/ round airbag among some other cosmetic stuff.
For wheel high/big offset is what xi/awd uses which put us in the same market as e9x/3-series ... what I'm using are ET35 front & ET40 rear and they are flush enough but some member go less for more aggressive look ... I'm getting close to replace my tires (at least the rear) so next round I'm getting wider rear instead of using spacer or the rear can use ET35/33.

Thanks for the info neighbor
Well I'm looking at the Beyern Multi's (or any other quality brand that has the same spoke design), but the place I called does not have the offsets by Beyern in 40/35. So I might need to go square. Been a while since I got Beyerns on my E46, but I don't recall this being such a hunt ...
