I would like to put staggerd wheels (if possible) on my 535 XI. The dealer indicates that it is not recommended and would void the Canadian warranty. The local tire/rim shop also does not recommend it. My underdstanding is that the X5 uses staggered wheels as a standard. I am confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure on what size you going to, but have the dealer check for the following part no:

36116767541 it's OEM style 124 8x18 for the front w/ ET43 offset
36116767542 it's OEM style 124 9x18 for the rear w/ ET55 offset

based on the above info the dealer should find the staggered option exist for the xi model, for other non-OEM size(s) the handicap for us xi owner will be the high offset as some members here using 19" and 20" wheels w/ nice & proper fitment.

The above p/n are from RealOEM website not using 535xi to be exact but should be close enough.

You sure can do it. There are a bunch of members on this forum that have done it. Take for example, my car, DrLev99, Bambi and das.

The 530xi and the 535xi have the exact same wheels specs, just as an FYI.

And like what was said above, your dealer must not be very knowledgable when it comes to BMW, because BMW clearly makes the staggered set-up for the xi in style 124 wheels. The main difference between these and the 124's for the standard RWD car is the offset (xi = ET43 & ET55).

So if I ordered 18" 124's from the dealer as an option, do they come staggered?

I assume you have an xi as well? If so, then yes. However, just to make sure, I would click on this link and take the wheel part numbers down, so you can confirm with your dealer.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...hg=36&fg=15

You also may want to consider doing this:

1) Get the car with the standard 17" or 18" wheels that come with the car. Use these wheels as your winter set-up, by swapping out the tires for Blizzaks, such as I have done. I use the 18" 123 stock wheels that came with the car as my winter wheels.

2) Order the new, staggered 124 wheels from Garry Romani of BMW of Newport (Rhode Island). He is the Parts Manager and gives E60.net members a 25% discount. If you go this route, again, confirm the part numbers with him to make sure he understands you have the xi and NOT the RWD model.

And if you still want to make sure, ask the dealer or Garry (depending on which route you go), what the offset of those wheels are. If he says ET43 for the front and ET 55 for the rear, you are good to go.

Make sense?

And I am the crazy one that put staggered 20's on my xi and have not had a single prob and my dealer wanted to sell me 20's in staggared. So can and has been done. But like C said make sure the offset is right.

Nice
This must be the most optimized wheel setup for an xi.
Please tell us what offset you have on those 20" wheels.

I actually tried both non-staggered and staggered 20" on my xi. Zero problem. And my dealer is ok with the setup.

Oh, right...almost forgot. Saridi and KU530 both have 20" staggered wheels on their xi. If that doesn't tell you it can be done, I don't know what will.

Sorry guys. Didn't mean to forget you.
