Is it covered by CPO?

It should be covered by cpo
I just called bavauto and they have the vdo pump for 399 while BMW genuine is 479, rep said it's the same supplier, should I get the vdo or the genuine BMW pump?

Resurrecting this thread. Happened to me tonight after driving driving 2-3 miles to school, picking someone up, and a mile down the road it all happened so fast. Yellow warning, then 15 seconds later, red and it was like Fred Flinstone was trying to get this thing in motion.
I did notice the front fan get real loud after I started the car up after waiting in the parking lot for about 5 minutes. Every time after that, it came on, loud as ever.
Had it towed to the dealership and left outside the service door and dropped the keys through the slot, since it was closed.
It's an 08 535xi with about 55K on it. Not sure if it's the pump, but it certainly seems like it after reading this. Tow truck guy said it was his 7 Bimmer he'd seen do this and could possibly be just the thermostat. Looks like this forum finds it's the pump.
Funny thing is, I don't think the pump was replaced until about a year ago. For over four years, it ran on the original pump. It was either before the warranty ran out in July of 2012, or a little afterwards that they just randomly changed it, due to the recall. Prior to that, never had this overheating crap.
Nor was there a long crank at all today. I'll wait to hear from the dealership tomorrow, but..... I dunno....

well this being my first post here i wanted to share my story as well
same issue everyone is having...first yellow, then red...no power...flat bed...dealer...water pump replacement.
luckily im still under CPO. Car is currently in the shop and i should be getting it back today.
2008 535i 68K miles...first serious issue...although i've been concerned about a tremble in the car at idle. but thats for another thread.

Turns out it was the water pump. $1771 for low fuel pressure sensor fault, water pump, and the coolant pump. $17 for the damn screws, too. Labor cost like $900-something for about $600 in parts.
Time to find reputable mechanics in the Chicago suburb area. Never again for the dealership.

Add me to the list- 2008 535xi barely a month outside of CPO and my water pump failed. BMW offered $200 offset to the $1300 quote for replacement, will not cover it despite the low miles and barely being out of CPO. This seems ridiculous that a car with 60k miles would have a bad water pump. Since so many others are having this issue, you would think BMW would address it. This issue (after the $500 battery experience recently) has me looking at Audis now.

Wow I never knew it cost so much for a water pump. I read threads on here about faulty water pumps and decided to do mine myself not going with BMW. I purchased a water pump kit that came with the thermostat and reservoir it cost me $250. A little bit over an hour in the garage and it was done. This is an easy job because I had no clue what I was doing and I got it done quickly. I also changed my sensor and hoses. If you have two hours to fiddle with it I guess it is a real money saver. I bought my kit from AM-autoparts.

Please do not think Audi is better. I have owned a BMW, Audi and Mercedes and all of them come with their own Euro issues. When it comes to European cars its what you are buying "issues". Only buy them for the look and ride not maintenance because if you don't you will be greatly disappointed. Grant it, Audi will be my next car "4-door A5" to be exact but I know I will be having the same issues around 50000 like all the others. If not sooner.
