535i with only 15 miles and a TRANS MALFUNCTION ERROR!!
#1
Good morning Guys,
I need your help today because one of my colleague just got his new 535i on Friday, and on his way home from the dealer, with 15 miles on the ODO, he got a "TRANS MALFUNCTION - REDUCE SPEED" warning message!!!! He tried to shut the car off, restart and again, while driving, suddenly the systems kicks in and shuts down his power. He brought it back to the dealer but they have no idea where this error is coming from. They now sent the error codes to Germany.
Has anybody around here experienced the same issue??
Thanks in advance for your help!

This one is easy - just tell you friend to get new one from the dealer. Period.

Ohhhh that hurts!
I trust the dealer has been extremely generous and provided a new loaner (equivalent to or better than his new 535) while they sort out the cause of the trans fail situation. It is likely a minor module or related electronic failure that will be sorted out very quickly.
If it is a failed transmission I would settle for nothing less than a new replacement vehicle and a free equivalent loaner during the time it would require to complete the build. There might even be a basis for additional cash compensation given the short life of the 535.

The dealer has sent the code and info on the failure to BMW Germany and is waiting for their feedback.
I will keep you all posted on any progress.

OK, so here is a little update: in the end it was discovered that the valve body (i.e., the "brain" of the transmission that selects which gear should is used) that was fried/malfunctioning. The dealer got the part in half a day and my buddy was able to get his car back last night (although not completely happy with this event, he negotiated some $ back).
Anyway, so far the car seems to be running great so let's see in the long run.

***I wonder if this is a common misdiagnosed problem via an hpfp failure
