I was wondering if the 535i NO SPORT OPTION comes an oil cooler. Some have reported that the 535i with SPORT comes with the oil cooler, but no reports of 535i NO SPORT...

Did anyone order the 535i without sport besides me???

Do you guys think it will come with an oil cooler??? (My car is "awaiting transport.")

Thanks

If I look at the lower fascia of the front grill I can sell a smaller radiator in front of the bigger radiator. Go to a dealer and look at a non-sport car to see if you can see it.

Hey guys thanks for the input. I can't really go to my dealer to check because all of the 535i have the SPORT package.

Did anyone order the 535i without sport???

I don't think that the non-sports have an oil cooler. Most cars don't. The bearings of the two turbos, which spin at 100,000 rpm and are driven by hot exhaust gas, are cooled by the engine oil. Unless you are towing with your car, which also increases heat, you won't need an oil cooler.

No, this is not correct. The turbo bearing housing is water cooled.

Oil runs through the turbo bearings to lubricate them and this pulls heat from them into the general oil supply and increases the need for an oil cooler.

I have a sport 535i which is standing in the workshop for the last 5 days because of an oil cooler leak. How exciting!

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

I think it's important to understand which cooler we're talking about here. There is a transmission oil radiator, and engine radiator. I don't know the BMW line entirely, but I'm pretty sure the standard is Transmission and Engine, the "engine" oil cooler is something a little more uncommon and probably reserved possibly the sport model.?. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

If you aren't getting the Sports Package and they follow the same rules they have on the 335i, you won't have the extra oil cooler.

On the 335i, All Manuals (both Non-Sport and Sport) came with the Oil Cooler visible in the front right wheel well. Initially all 335i Autos came without the extra oil cooler, mine included which was built in November.

As of March production 335i Autos with Sport Package started coming with the extra oil cooler. Over at e90post someone posted an email from BMW NA in which they stated they initially weren't adding the extra oil cooler to the Auto's because they assumed Auto drivers wouldn't be driving the car as aggressively or taking the cars to the track. They were wrong and some people with 335i Autos started to experience overheating and their cars went into "limp mode" when the temp hit 300 degrees.

I have Auto/Sport (no extra oil cooler) and drive rather aggressively and even on a real hot day of around 90 degrees, my temp never went above 260.

On a side note, some people at e90post petitioned BMW NA for the Oil Cooler and they are offering a retrofit that is done at the dealer. I could get it but feel no need to as my temp has yet to approach the danger zone for going into limp mode.

Excuse my rambling....

This has been discussed at great lengths at e90post since we had the twin turbo engine before the 5 series did. I hope this sheds some light on the situation.

If you have more questions on the twin turbo engine e90post has a whole section on this and you can probably get any other questions answered.
