But I think we both know that I was referring to road cars?

I think we both know I was just pulling your leg!
I know Audi were doing a race car with a diesel so I thought I would look up if any other car company was developing "supercar" diesels thats why I was surfing and found those.

My Ride: 545i SMG with Limited Slip Differential
Model Year: 2005
Hondik, stop BS: steptronic 545i smokes 535d in every way or every planet.
Against manual/SMG there is problem of the gear ratio (simply solvable if you want, as I did) and there is less difference, but still big.
Edit:
Buy the M5 is you want to make more pollution than the entire China and if you feel the necessity to go as far as a Ferrari.

I don't want to reopen old debates
+1 and I close immediately the debate:
Stock 535d: 0-200 in 24.6 (remapped 21, usually)
Stock steptronic 545i: 18-19s
535d is slower but his + is the fuel economy (because it's diesel and 6 cilinders)
Debate closed.

The main advantage the 535d has over the 545 is when you apply a remap of the ecu
Result .........................bye bye 545

Result .........................bye bye 545

Ecu remap on 545i...... bye bye 535d remaped...

My Ride: 2005 530d auto ,Carbon black, all options but HUD and sunroof
Thanks ALEX35
This is an old subject or ..... It all depends where you live and how much fuel costs ?
My 530d does the job fantastically for everyday driving and occasional stepping on it and awaking the Turbo ,but to be honest it bugs me on early morning start-up ,5minuts on and can't hear anything but peace and a Hum.
Overal the diesel is more quite doing 70mph and faster 50-90mph (normal for UK).
All said would kill for the sound of V8 anytime or silkyL6.

Alright guys, I'm glad you liked this short comparison. I just forgot one thing to mention and I'd like to get explanation! The brakes (front and rear) are much larger on 535d than on 545i, why?
P.S. 1 Alex - 545i is fast - yeah - but not that much. Maybe yours is faster than light but every other can be matched by a regular 535d easily.
P.S. 2 - Both petrol and diesel can be remapped / tuned up so discussion about this is pointless, this was a pure stock comparison. I'm sure it would result in the same for LCI 535d and 550i.
