The uprated engine has a marginal increase of less than 10 BHP so IMHO it wont make that much of a change - if your in the market for a 535d i'd do it now as once the uprated engine hits and e60 then there will be talks of the "new 5 series" this never ends end you won't ever be able to buy a car

No offence colejl
No offence taken! However, the headline figure of 14hp/20Nm increase is nice but doesn't fully represent the full changes... The lighter block and improved injection helps all-round and the low-end torque is further enhanced. Ok, the current 535d is great, but the new one will be even better. I just think it's wise to know of impending changes and make a decision fully informed.

Some very good pointers and feedback from all. So glad of a good forum like this one. Wish a new 535d sport was an option to be honest but even if we did wait till March, would that not mean delivery of the new 286bhp would be May/June 2007?

We're being offered a stunning used carbon black with 19's 172 and yes it does look amazing. As for status, it's just me and the girlfriend- both 28, so yes kids might be an option but not yet. Shame the 335d sport isn't in coupe form yet. But to persevere we've got a test drive booked in for Friday :-p
There's no official line on the updated 535d, but unless a dealer is going to take a firm booking/delivery then it may be May/June... I'm guessing the E92 M Sport will be released at a similar time too...

Tough choices! (But none are really wrong)

The other option you have is a new 335d M sport Touring. I ordered one yesterday in black, and I currently have a chipped 535d M sport salon.

Main reason for the 3 series was the extra chuckability you get and a much better auto box. In black sports it looks better than the 5 !

When its run in i'll also get it chipped so should fly !!

It's possible that the 'facelift' will wait until September but I can't believe the engines will! (Updated 520d, 525d, 535d, 525i, 530i and new 535i)

Now this is interesting! wondering what to seriously do, we've got a good deal on a new 335d sport - well 36kish with the following:-

bmw assist
pro sat nav
xenon
terra leather
black metallic
sun protection glass
6 cd changer
bluetooth with telematics

The price is ?41.3k on the bmw web site, presume if we had it till around May next year what would a realistic deprection price be considering it was ?41.3 k in reality.

Car is uk sourced too....

Thanks colejl,

Is so so tempting. What would you guys think we could part ex it for next year, say if we put 10k on it and then go for a 535d sport around May/June 2007.

Cheers and thanks for the help!

On a brand new car, you'd certainly lose tha VAT as you drove out so that's ?6K down the pipe (off RRP) before you blink.

The E92 should do well on depreciation, however you will still lose most in the first year (or part thereof)! The comment about VAT isn't necessarily true because the second hand market works mainly on a supply and demand basis so certain cars can buck the trend... (Ok, what I mean is that a main dealer will continue to stitch you up on 2nd hand prices but give you bugger all as part-ex )
