Might be a bit of a no brainer to some on the forum, but we're slightly confused on which to buy. The new 335d sport looks mint and love the split exhaust on the back. As for us, we've been used to a 530d sport and the 5 series just seems to have so much more presence on the road.

Help, as for price, there's not much in it. Can get a mint 335d sport specced up for ?35k...

Help friends!

535d M Sport - hmmm now that's me and I would say that

But honestly a 5's a 5 and a 3's a 3 - they are two very different car's and as you said the 5 has the road presence (especially in the right colour and with 19"s)

Bear in mind that the 335d has the updated (& lighter) engine. This won't hit the 535d until at least March 2007...

I'd wait and choose the 535d

The uprated engine has a marginal increase of less than 10 BHP so IMHO it wont make that much of a change - if your in the market for a 535d i'd do it now as once the uprated engine hits and e60 then there will be talks of the "new 5 series" this never ends end you won't ever be able to buy a car

No offence colejl

Is the 335d going to be a 2nd car? if so then i'd go for the 335d especially if its a coupe. It will be numbler, more sporty and if tuned an even bigger beast.

But if it is your only or the main car of the house (do u have a wife and kids?) then you will miss the space, dignity and presence of the 5 series.

best option? 535d as 1st car and 335d as 2nd car for the wife (which u can steal occasionally).

If you are a single guy then go for the 335d.

Some very good pointers and feedback from all. So glad of a good forum like this one. Wish a new 535d sport was an option to be honest but even if we did wait till March, would that not mean delivery of the new 286bhp would be May/June 2007?

We're being offered a stunning used carbon black with 19's 172 and yes it does look amazing. As for status, it's just me and the girlfriend- both 28, so yes kids might be an option but not yet. Shame the 335d sport isn't in coupe form yet. But to persevere we've got a test drive booked in for Friday :-p

I was in a similar boat (I'm 29 and childless!) I thought that for the same money a neary new 535d sport has so much more equipment than a 3 series (it was a 330d sport at the time. I also think the 5 looks better than the 3 sport saloon. The cars are not a lot different in size but the packaging of the 5 is vastly better. The new coupe looks fantastic but spec it up with the gadgets and gizmos you want (and expect in a car costing this much) and you'll find yourself approaching ?40k.

Plus if you have children you are all set up!!!!

I went for a 6 month old 535 and haven't regretted it!!

Its a nice dilemma to have though!!

Thanks Blondie,

True is a nice dilemma and must admit ironically enough actually spotted a 335d sport driving into work this morning. Was in black, looked great. But is it me or does it lack the aggressiveness that the 535d sport brings. Line them up next to each other and it's hands down for me on the 535d sport. Yes we are aware there might be some cosmetic changes in March with the "new" 535d sport but as 535d man says we'll be constantly chasing the trend.

It's tricky and have to admit the gf is leaning towards the 335d sport, primariliy because she doesn't want an "aggressive" looking car :-p

As Blondie above I too had this same issue but between the 520D SE and the 320D SE. However because of a strange pricing policy because of the package concept and because the 320D SE was still a new model I managed to get the 520D SE with all the options I wanted cheaper than a similarly configured 320D SE . Of course I still got the engine I wanted I've been very very happy with my choice. I would have been kicking myself if I bought a 3 instead of a 5 especially since there is no money matter involved.
