Did the new LCI engine come at the same time as the 535d LCI model? Just wondering if the new style gear stick could be used as a way to guarantee 100% the car has the newer 282bhp engine.

I believe you cannot do this with the 520d as there was a delay between the 520d LCI and the new engine. How would one tell for 100% that a 520d LCI had the newer engine?

TIA

Yes, if it's got the new style (tacky) gear stick then it will definitely have the 286PS engine.

With the 520d LCI you cannot be certain (I for one have a 520d LCI with the old engine). You can check the build date. Until september 2007 it had the old engine. If you check an automatic, then you can check the gear stick indeed
