I've been using it for a while... Whether it's actually worth it is debatable! Probably all in the mind IMHO is seems quieter

With fuel so expensive the extra isn't really that much difference any more either...

I think one of the car programmes did a test on 'super' unleaded brands recently. They found that it only really made a difference on high performance models (big difference in power and economy with EVO, small difference with Golf GTi, no difference with ford focus).

Can't recall seeing anything about diesel though, although I was fooled by the marketing into putting ultimate in yesterday - big cost difference though circa 10p a litre !

Yes that was at 5th gear. My car never tasted anything else than the best diesel. Here the best diesel is from omv (Euro 5). I dunno i think it really matters in terms of quiteness and a bit in performance.

I used Ultimate for the first 3000 miles after I got the car (used so already broken in) and then used Shell and found it noticably better on the first tank. So now try and use that all the time, about 92p for Shell compared with a ?1 for Ultimate round here, which makes you feel a little better

Using BP Ultimate, more for the cleaning properties than performance. I just feel that the extra is probably their & it's only a couple of pence more expensive than regular.

Used Shell Optimax all the time in my RS6, as the car ran noticably better & quicker using Optimax.

Do any other fuel suppliers do a super diesel or is it just BP??

Nothing but ultimate in mine..BP claim more mpg so there must be some benefit, or they would not get away with advertising it. I don't mind paying a few pennies extra for the best!

Don't let Gordon Brown* hear you say that!

* For non-UK residents he is our current Chancellor of the Exchequer who decides fuel-duty

Shell are introducing Shell Diesel 'Extra', but there are few garages that have it at present due to production limitations.

The claim is better cleaning and hence performance and MPG..................the good bit is it is the same price as thier current regular diesel, when they can roll it out, BP Ulitimate is dead !, certainly as an increased price option anyway.

( I think you will find that 'BP Ultimate claim better mpg / performace on the basis of reduced carbon build up and cleaning abilities rather than as a 'high performance' fuel per se.)
