535d: fist impressions
#1
I've got my new 535d just before Easter and so far I'm extatic.
The engine is a real masterpiece in terms of power and progression.
I would like, however, to know from other 535 owners whether or not they noticed a different sound when accelerating just before 1,500 rpm: whilst throughout the rest of the range it has a round and rich sound, at or about 1,500 rpm I can hear a somehow coarser sound, similar to the typical diesel "knock". As soon as I'm beyond 1,550-1,600 rpm, everythying is back to normal.
Is that something others have experienced or may be the signal of something wrong?
Cheers

I noticed that on the one I test drove - dealer said it was just a cold engine, but I suspect that there has to be some giveaway that it is a diesel somewhere :-(

I have a small amount of a light diesel rattle at about 1500rpm (under heavy accelleration) on my 530d it is more noticable when cold but still there when warm.
It is way down there in the noise but I sometimes can hear it if the radio and AC fan are both off.
When I first got the car I took it back to the dealer since I'm conviced my demo car did not have the same noise. He said is was normal but some cars were just noisier than others and it reduces with age. I test drove another 530d and it was the same.
I've now done >20K miles and all I can say is that I don't notice it and if anything it has softend considerably.
Don't worry about it and enjoy your car.
