no car ever was faster then my except M5 (at high speed) and Porsche turbo. All the rest has been looking at my backside ..for a short while...

Good to see you happy with this upgrade and i really do not like to ruin it, but I do not think this comparison is correct...... although BMW is very proud with the 535d (especially on the torque side), in a stock vs stock comparison the 545 is a better performer despite the huge torque in the 535d!
With your tuning you might get close to 545.... IMHO trying to believe that with some tuning one can get an engine to easily outperform its bigger brother is ridiculous and infers a mistrust in BMW engineering capability (at least this is what i believe). So if i am not satisfied with my 550 performance... i would go and buy an M5 rather than fool myself with ideas like 550 can be tuned to outperform an M5. But again this is just me!

Here is a 545 vs 535d comparison to enjoy:

c) 545i is lighter than preLCI 535d, about 100 Kgs
Alex the 535d weights 1735kg and your 545i weights 30kgs less which makes it 1705. Get your facts straight. Why would it be 100 kgs lighter. The V8 isnt exactly what you call light when compared to a diesel engine.Refering to the engines because that is what makes the difference as the rest of the car is practically the same.

No man, the new 535d is lightner than the old one : the current 535d is +30 Kg, not the old (I have the BMW site opened) .
The material of the 3.0sd isn't the same of the old 3.0d .

You're right Alex, the 286hp 3,0sd has alloy block and cyl head, the 272hp 3,0sd has only alloy cyl head but cast iron engine block.

What this makes on the car it self I don't if someone really care, look at BMW hompage....

It looks to me that our Italian friend has very much Italian blood streaming through his vanes. He wants to be the best and his car is the best of the world.

It is stupid to try to compare a 535d and 545i/550i.
I rather am proud that a porsche 911S driver can not drive away from my diesel-arrow....

Both BMW's are super cars with super power. Only diesel is pushed by torque en V8 petrol pushed by hp and nice sound.

Sorry but, but official figures from tests by car-jounalists between 535d stock and 545i stock show that both cars accelarate almost exactly the same from 0-200. See also topgear video at youtube. 535d remapped with 30% more power will beath 545 easely.
17s 0-200 for 545 stock is not correct......hill down maybe
http://edu.cqdx.gov.cn/car/53069.html

Both owners should be proud of their nice car and not try to compete.

V8 can be little bit faster accelerating between 5000 an 7500 rpm. Diesel wil do almost the samen but more relaxed and between 2000 and 4000 rpm. Petrol has nicer sound then diesel, but diesel has always mass of torque from 1500 rpm. Petrol has to gear back a lot. Diesel rpm is only 3400 at 250kmh....

I had myself before a 545i but i like much more the 535d remapped diesel. Half the fuel cost and always lots of power and torque. With V8, the car has to go to high rpm for power and the people in the streek think that i am a lunatic is i give full power.

I is everone right to defend its own can but please don not try to break another nice super bmw.

A bmw family member.

The brochure that i checked was from 2005 and it says 1735kg for the 535d.That is pre-lci.
So if the new 535d is lighter as you say then it should be about the same weight as your 545i.(This doesnt have to do with the topic but its something worth noticing.
For reference can you post the url of where you saw that the LCI 535d is +30kg from the 545i?
I think that the data thats put in brochures and on the net dont match so that is what is confusing me.

I think Alex was beaten up by a diesel bully and had his lunch money taken while he was at nursery. He has alot of hostility towards diesels. Bless.

That's the same as I think..
Why would a V8 be lighter than a six in line? The engine is bigger, ok no turbo's but the turbo's doesn't weight the same as 2 extra pistons
