My 2008 535xi wagon has the cable to connect the ipod through the nav system and my son's ipod nano generation 3 charges and displays the play lists fine. My question is whether the 4th gen nano will display properly (pretty sure it will) and if it will charge in the car- no one seems to know, since the newest ipod has different charging pin configurations apparently. Any thoughts? Thanks.

According to the ipod interface manual, the 4G nano will work, but will not charge. However, I think you can buy a third party adapter that will fix that. It plugs in between the BMW cable and the ipod.

There are fixes for that, the Scosche 3G Adapter. works with the 4G nano too. its roughly $25-30 dollars. I use it on my kit and it works great. Only thing is that when you plug in the phone, they prompt you with a message saying "do you want to enable airplane mode? and turn phone off?" I just press no and that's all.
