Guys, when i got my 530i back from the dealer the first thing i noticed was that the sound of the engine was much louder at around 2000rpm.
The SA told me before i even get in the car that they didnt do any software upgrades.
How can they retrofit something and not upgrade the software?
I am thinking that the SA had no idea what i was talking about.

I am also thinking that the car now has the same map with the LCI and therefore 275hp. The growl is so much louder.
All this came to my mind when i read posts about the LCI 530i being louder than the pre-LCI.

Actually I do not think you can upgrade the hp of the car just by making software upgrade. It would be too easy and nice. The two cars, pre LCI and LCI, have totally different engines and the software set up of one would not work with the other.
However, I already noticed that by upgrading the software, engines are changing a bit, are more smooth or more prompt, have highest torque at a lower rotations etc. This, IMO, is just a car software improvement to get the best possible out of the engine without touching the power otherwise you would have to change all the documents, insurance, road tax etc.

They didn't upgrade your engine. That's not possible!

So you got a new engine and nice lights ?

How much did they charge for the increase of horsepower?

Cheers

I'm worried that when they took out the lights, they didn't do a good job in putting the air filter assembly back. I myself did my own change of xenons and if I remember correctly, I had to take out the aircleaner assembly. The growl might be from the air filter assembly.

Thats the most likely. could just be a case that it is put in slightly off, casuing a change in resonace thats all.
If its a nice growl i personaly wouldnt worry .

The two engines are TOTALLY different and the "upgrade" is not feasible: the N53 (272 bhp) is a second generation high precision injection engine (FSi in VW terminology, whereas the N52 (258bhp) is not. Therefore, the NO is the only answer. Have you changed your petrol station or fuel quality (the 100+ oct. is much better than the 97 oct. in my 530i)?
